Christmas came early this year for Amanda McCormick and her family in Australia. But the most unexpected “gift” wasn’t beneath the tree.
Someone was in there.
The McCormicks returned home from a trip earlier this week to find an unexpected addition to their holiday decorations. A hairy, wild neighbor had let herself in before nestling down amid the branches of their yuletide centerpiece, it turned out.
“That’s not something you see every day,” McCormick wrote. “We just got home to see a real-life koala on our Christmas tree in our living room!”
The koala apparently crept in through a rear door that the family had left open for their dog. She seems to have settled in fast.
The koala was perhaps McCormick’s most memorable present, but it was one she knew she couldn’t keep.
After taking a few photographs of the unexpected visitor, McCormick summoned rescuers from 1300Koalaz to securely transfer her. They, too, were taken aback by the whole affair.
“Our hotline operator got a call this evening. She initially believed she had been the victim of a prank call “The rescuers wrote. “But no, a desperate koala had walked into Amanda McCormick’s house and decided it wanted to be the fairy on the Christmas tree.”
Thankfully, rescuers were able to securely remove the koala from the McCormicks’ tree and transport her to a safe location. Overall, it’s an event the family will never forget.
“This is the most thrilling Wednesday night I’ve ever experienced!” McCormick penned the piece. “Merry Christmas to everyone, and thanks for stopping by, little Koala friend!”
