Redditor carefree_dude’s wife found an injured baby squirrel on the side of the road twitching, most likely hit by a car. The poor wild animal had major head trauma and couldn’t do anything, so the family reached out to a wildlife rehabilitator.
After six days of medicine, Mitten, the cute squirrel, felt a lot better, he was able to hold food, though he still needed help drinking and couldn’t walk very well. “We are still caring for him, though he will likely never be able to be rereleased, wrote the Redditor. “He may not be able to live a wild life, but if he continues to recover, we can help him live a good life as a pet squirrel.”
Mitten is the second adorable squirrel the family has saved: “We would love to run a wildlife rehabilitation center someday. We are building a 5ft by 3ft by 8ft enclosure for him, which I hope to put a small living tree in.” For now, the cute animal loves hanging out in the family’s Christmas tree.
