Some animals, like this pit bull that was exploited as a bait dog for dogfighting, are unlucky early in life and have to endure cruel and terrible beginnings. She had been scarred to the point of losing her right ear when she was discovered by rescuers, who disguised her scars with lovely hats while she recovered.
Despite her tough beginnings, this young girl named Abigail was full of love, which she discovered for the first time in Victoria Frazier of Love Is Fur Ever Dog Rescue.
Victoria noticed Abigail’s picture at a Miami dog shelter and decided to go grab her and bring her to her own shelter.
Multiple operations and skin grafts were performed on this courageous little dog. Abigail had to wear hat-like bandages for the duration of her rehabilitation.
Victoria chose to dress up her style with a few accessories.
Abigail’s tale grew in popularity, and as more people knew about her, they began to give her homemade hats, tiaras, and headbands.
Victoria enrolled Abigail in the Hero Dog of the Year competition sponsored by the American Humane Association. They made it to the final seven, and the money they collected was donated to Dogs on Deployment, an organization that helps military members’ dogs find temporary homes.
Abigail was selected Hero of the Year and was honored at a star-studded banquet in Beverly Hills; today his tale inspires others and he is a celebrity.
Abigail spent seven months in the shelter with Victoria, healing from her tough start, until she met Jason and Megan Steinke, who had another rescued pit bull, and chose to take her home with them to provide her a loving home.
